Bill grew up in the Lexington Presbyterian Church, joined the Lexington FUMC in 1988, and has been a Trustee Chairman and Council member in the past. Bill is a lifelong resident of Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School, where he participated in football, wrestling and track. He attended UNL then returned to Lexington to farm. He has served as a Dawson County Commissioner since 1999, and was a board member of the Lexington Community
Foundation for 12 years. He is currently Second Vice President of the Lexington Lions Club. Donna was raised in the Methodist Church and became a member while in Junior High. She joined Lexington FUMC shortly after moving to town to teach. In the church, she has taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and served on several committees. Donna is a native of Chapman, Kansas. After high school graduation, she went to Kansas State University, where she earned a BA in Physical Education and a minor in Spanish. She began her teaching career in Lexington and taught for 39 years, also earning a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Physical Education from UNK. Coaching middle school volleyball, basketball, and track as well as high school track and tennis were also included in her duties. Professionally, she was active in Nebraska SHAPE, serving on the state board. She is also a PEO member. Bill and Donna were married in 1986 and have 2 grown sons. Alex and Maggie live in Chicago and have 1 son, Billy. Ben and Kelly live in Lincoln with 3 sons, Henry, Griffin, and Fletcher. Spending time with family is one of their greatest joys! They also enjoy traveling, golfing, gardening, watching their favorite sports teams, working out at the YMCA, and playing with their dogs. Ordinarily, spouses cannot both serve on the Council simultaneously, but the United Methodist District Superintendent agreed to allow it as long as only one of the Stewarts votes. They are co-chairs of the finance committee. This allows them to fill a position so that the chairman of the finance committee is represented at Council meetings, even if one of them is unable to attend. |
