There are times on everyone’s journey where a little more care and compassion is needed because of a challenging experience. At First United Methodist Church we promise to listen, empathize and be a reminder that we, your faith community, care. We will visit you when you’re in the hospital or those who for health reasons cannot leave your home, and provide you resources when you experience loss and pray for you each step of the way! At First Church Lex, when one of our members is hurting we are all affected. We want to partner with you to show you our support and connect with you as you grow in your own ministry of caring for others.
Ministries of Care Available
Prayer Concerns
When you or a loved one is in need of prayer and support, please call the church office or email office@firstchurchlex.org The office staff or pastor will work with you in determining if you want your concern forwarded to our Prayer Team or to stay confidential between you and the pastor. Prayer grounds us as a community of faith for it is an ongoing practice of faith and hope. You can also submit prayer requests here.
Hospital Visits
Hospitals do not notify churches when members are admitted. They will contact us if you ask them to do so. If you or a loved one is hospitalized, preparing for surgery, or will be spending time in rehabilitation and would like a visit or phone call, please contact the church office.
Home & Care Center Visits
The Pastor and Congregational Care Team Members make visits on a regular rotation. If you or a loved one wish to be added to that rotation, please contact the church office and let us know. You are always welcome to contact the church office if you would like to request a visit.
Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care Sessions, Spiritual Counsel, and Discipleship Coaching are available to members and to the community as individuals, couples, or small groups. Please call or email the church office to initiate a visit.
End of Life Care
We encourage everyone to have a Health Care Directive that outlines your wishes for end of life care, to consider planning the particulars that are important to you for your funeral, and to plan for conversations with your loved ones about your wishes. If you would like someone to walk through these items with you, please contact the church office to set up a time.
Coffee Fellowship & 5th Sunday Brunch
After worship each Sunday, we offer Coffee Fellowship (with donuts, of course). On the fifth Sunday of the month, Coffee Fellowship turns into a full-fledged brunch. We feel that coffee ministries are about more than just hot beverages. They are about inviting visitors and members to stay a little longer, to get to know each other better, and to make church more than just an hour-long to-do in their day. The focus is to bring people together in order to strengthen the bonds of our church community. If you would like to help serve at Coffee Fellowship, please contact the church office or let Pastor Velma know.
