After moving to Lexington in the 9th grade, Lauri was an active member of First United Methodist throughout her high school years. She graduated from Kearney State College and went on to teach high school English and journalism for five years. After leaving teaching to return to college, she earned her Masters Degree in Journalism from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and then moved to Colorado in 1984 where she became news & features editor for two international magazines and wrote her first book, Color for Quilters, before moving up to Marketing Creative Director. After 17 years there she started her own graphic design business in 2001. Lauri moved back to Lexington several years ago to take care of her father and be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.
